Roman Shirokov (born July 6, 1981 in Dedovsk) is a Russian football player. He is a midfielder but he is also capable of playing in defense. He played as centerback in Zenit's sensational performance against Bayer Leverkusen in a match they won 4-1 in Germany. Currently, he is part of the Russia national football team . Shirokov made his debut along with Roman Adamov in a dissapointing 3-0 loss to Romania in a friendly match. He currently plays for FC Zenit Saint Petersburg in the Russian Premier League. Previously, he played for FC Khimki, Rubin Kazan, Saturn Moscow Oblast, FK Vidnoe, FK Istra, Burevestnik Moskva, Torpedo-ZIL Moskva and CSKA Moscow (second team).
